Tenuta di Aglaea Bianco 2016

This is Carricante from Etna, grown at 750m ASL As an aside, at a wild-arsed guess, I’d say around 30% of the samples I receive are imports (mostly Italian) these days; how things change. Italian dry whites are still a little undersung to my way of thinking. Importer: Beaune & Beyond.

It’s not a flavoursome wine, as such, it’s more about the chalky and flinty feels, freshness and vibrancy – more to texture and extreme drinkability over that. You could say it’s like barely ripe pineapple and lemon water, perhaps some raw almond and green apple, but the purity and racy crunch is just so mouth-watering and delicious, it’s hard to stop guzzling it. Finish is briny, dry and pretty long. It’s a wonderful thing.
