Grampians Estate Mafeking Shiraz 2017

I’ve tasted through a number of red wines from Grampians Estate today and the whole range looks in good shape. The wines pretty much all go into a combination of French and American oak, new and used, and they all offer attractive mid-weight, well-balanced flavours. This Mafeking Shiraz is a good example.

There’s an argument that, in any meeting in any office anywhere in the world, it’s appropriate and astute to remark at some point, whether you’ve been listening to proceedings or not, “I guess it’s just a matter of getting the balance right.” That’s what this wine has done. Pepper, spice, oak, mint, plum, orange peel and redcurrant flavours all slip amiably through the mouth, milk chocolate notes thereabouts too.  It’s not a big wine by any stretch but it’s all been done and presented well. It’s easy to be a fan.
