Domenica Nebbiolo 2013

DomenicaIf you’re into the new wave of true fine wine producers of Australia you should be onto, should get onto, Domenica. Classics in the making. Rising high. Peter Graham got schooled (partly) at the great Giaconda winery in Beechworth. This is where he struts his own stuff. Single vineyard wine sent to large format oak to rest a while. It’s impressive.

Whoa. This set me back in the seat. Close your eyes and you’re somewhere-or-other in Barolo, open them and the brickish bronzing of garnet colour is there in glass. No aping Italy, but the DNA of the homeland of the variety is there. Those tannins. I’ll stutter. Those tannins. Sheets, rippling, firm, corduroy-charry waves of chew that start from front and build to back then soften and dry things. There’s rose petals, tobacco, pot pourri, light red cherry character and tobacco, gum leaf and earth, all through an impressive succulent length… but those tannins. Far out, this is very good.
