Domaine Jean-Claude Marsanne Saint Joseph 2016

Relatively small producer, but the main deal was that importer Randall Pollard kept seeing it in all his favourite Parisian wine bars and restaurants, and wanted to get some for Australia. From the older, southern part of Saint J.

Dark cherry scents, flint and wet slate aromas, brambles and garrigue, a savouriness, a meatiness, a lot going on. Succulent in the palate, good concentration and then that hazy sort of powdery texture that speaks of rustic charm, though flavours are brooding and ripe and clear. Spice is a huge part of the wine, so is earthiness and savoury character. Glorious, old school expression.
