Yalumba The Virgilius Viognier 2017

Viognier. Still the great white hope of Yalumba. Great to get an audience with the delightful Yalumba winemaker Kevin Glastonbury too. He doesn’t make this wine, he’s the boss of red wines of course, so he shrugged his shoulders and got on with it anyway. Kidding. He loves the stuff. Maybe.

Has that tacky, paint-drying texture but enough gloss of acidity to keep the wine perky, but you’re never going to miss the variety and never going to be disappointed by the concentration and weight. It’s a pearler here. Light on apricot character, but there, a touch of honey, something floral, faint talc-like mineral charm. A righteous wine.
