Wynns Coonawarra Estate White Label Shiraz 2016

If you’d not read a wine review in ten years and had remained rusted on to an old favourite label, how would you be doing? It’s a question I often ask myself. Can you save yourself the stuff and nonsense and just carry on drinking Wynns Black Label and Penfolds Bin 28 and Water Wheel Shiraz and even maybe Elizabeth Semillon with some Jacob’s Creek somewhere in there too etc and still be doing as good as anyone? The answer to that question lies in no small part in the quality of Wynns White Label Shiraz.

You have to marvel at how astute the winemaking is here. For such a high volume wine, the way tannin is sketched through the back palate, the way sweet plum-shot fruit rolls through the mouth, the way whispers of both herbs and cloves can be heard but only if you put your ear to them. It’s deft. It’s not rocket science or earth shattering but it drinks exactly as you would hope it to, and most nights that’s all your looking for a wine to do. Kudos. This is well worth buying and drinking.
