Voyager Estate MJW Chardonnay 2016

A new range of top end wine from Voyager, replacing the old Tom Price label. Press release and bottle both made no mention of price, curiously, so I had to go looking. This is bottle 618/1032.

It’s a richer and more opulent style than is usual for Voyager, and that’s likely fair enough given the price, which often comes with the expectation of a bit of luxury. Pear and peach, aniseed, spicy biscuit oak, citrus peel. Medium-bodied, grapefruit tang through pear, peach and green banana flavour, chalky and flinty texture, yoghourt and toasty oak lay in the non-fruit characters, and the finish runs true and long with more grapefruit and spice. It’s not quite ‘together’ as yet, or so it feels, but another year in bottle should see it really shine.
