A selection of the best barrels from North Block 12 (planted 1995) and Old Block V9 (1978) with 4% estate-grown Petit Verdot. As an aside, we seem to be missing a review of the 2014 Estate Cabernet Merlot, so one of us should track that down…
Boysenberry, redcurrant, dark chocolate, menthol and cedar, some tobacco and floral perfume. It’s medium-bodied, sports a lovely mouth-perfume, good flavour, grainy gravelly tannin, and bright acidity, spicy biscuit oak in support. I like the wine, yet there’s a slight ‘hardness’ to it, and a separation of components (fruit/tannin/acidity) that gives me pause. Maybe it’s just me. Regardless, I feel it will be a *much* better wine in five or so years time.
