First production for this wine from Vineyard 28 in Geographe. You see the signs to cellar door on the highway down to Margaret River, and you catch a glimpse of a sandy-dirt road going through a forest. Spooky/romantic nexus. Don’t go in alone with a lover. Or do. This wine won Gold and Trophy at the Alternative Varieties Wine Show this year. Nice start.
It does what dolcetto does best in perfume, act fresh, sweetish, cherry-like. The palate is cherry and kirsch, lean and precise, with surprisingly tight tannins and a pinch, nervous finish. There’s good bite of acidity, but, if anything, a little too much. That being said, the DNA of the variety is strong, so for enthusiasts of serious renditions of dolcetto, this could be an Ace in the hole. A bit too shrill for me, but hey, I can see the wood for the trees.
