Tim Smith TSW Reserve Mataro 2015

Tim says on the back label that ‘A tasting note would be superfluous’, so I was sort of tempted to leave a lot of white space between this sentence, and the score. Anyway, I’m a professional, every now and then, so onward with the superfluity of our task.

Blackberry, liquorice, lavender and rosemary, spice and roast beef. Medium bodied, juiciness of fruit with an almost blackcurranty Nero d’Avola kind of sweetness, cut back with beef and dried herb, acidity is fresh and perky and tannin is silty and well settled in the back of the wine. Has density and concentration, without being too heavy or thick. Finish is raspberried and long. It’s a wine that will take a number of years to reveal its full potential, though there’s certainly interest and drinkability now. Excellent.
