Tarrington Vineyards Chardonnay 2016

There was a strong showing for this wine in the early noughties reviews on WineFront, with a blip in 2012 when it dropped down to silver territory with a 93. Tarrington is Hochkirch’s ‘other vineyard’ site, though wholly under their control and steadfast in biodynamic farming. An outstanding wine from 2016 here. Henty broadcast in Dolby Atmos, though this is old school, old wood, old winemaking, natural ferment etc etc. No website either, though go via Hochkirch if you are seeking out the wine.

Creaminess and yet a saline undertow. Fresh, feeling with generosity of stone fruit, green apple, oatmeal, nougat. Incredible depth and concentration, coolness underlying, it’s definitely a more slow moving, ample style, but has impressive freshness and vitality amongst it all. Drinks rich, luxurious, but with a stony/mineral character too. Not enough excitement conveyed, but I love this wine. Original and outstanding in its way.

What is The Wine Front?

The WINEFRONT has flourished as a wine review and information site since 2002. We believe in hard work, realistic scoring, reliability and rigorous independence. We cover Australian wine principally but we extend coverage across the wider world of wine. The hunt for the next beautiful wine knows no boundaries. The WINEFRONT is run by Campbell Mattinson, Gary Walsh and Mike Bennie. A full history of reviews and articles is available to subscribers via the WINE SEARCH tab.
