Steels Gate Chardonnay 2012

Steels Gate Vineyard; 5 acres of 25-30 year old non-irrigated vines is located on 41 acres of land in Steels Creek.

Goes through 35% malolactic fermentation to take a few edges off.

Wheatgerm, white peach, lime and spice – all the usual stuff, but here’s a pretty fine boned spiced style featuring grapefruity acid drive offset with a little cashew cream. Perky and light, but not without presence and complexity. Zesty finish of good length – all lime rind and spice.  Beautifully made. Just a tiny bit short of 94 points, but never mind all that; there’s fine drinking to be had here.

Tasted : Aug13
Alcohol : 12%
Price : $28
Closure : Screwcap
Drink : 2013 - 2018
