Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

It would be hard to top the monumental 2013, though 2014 was also a very good vintage in the Napa Valley. These wines are pretty hard to find, though they’re available if you’re keen, and I review them for the purposes of benchmarking and personal education.

So purple. So luscious. Cassis, coffee, nougat, mint, crushed rock. Full bodied, plush, ample sweet black fruit, a mass of ripe tannin, black olive, stony feel, intense and dense, coffee cream and spice on a very long thickly tannic finish perfumed with violets. It’s almost painfully young at present, though if you enjoy voluptuous fruit and quality oak, no problem. I’ll be waiting for my next bottle.
