Spinifex Solana Barossa NV

This is the first time this wine has seen light of day from the Spinifex winery and hands of Pete Schell. It’s effectively a solera-style wine, started in 2005, with an estimation that the bottling (late 2013) is around four years old. “I’ve been retaining little bits of what could be Lola, weird stuff that didn’t fit, I tasted some Vina Tondonia white in the UK, and thought I could do some things similar with my wine”, says Schell. There are about eight to ten barrels in the solera, that spend most of their lives outside, “fascinating to see what happens, they tend to brown up, shit themselves, go loose, then they almost suddenly tune up, get tight, show detail”, offers Schell.

“There’s so much to work out, so easy to fall back on default styles, as soon as you can rid yourself of some expectations, you can expand some horizons”; Schell at his most astute.
