Sparkling Wine Tasting – Chandon, Rochford, Jansz, Yarra Burn, Soleil, Les Jamelles, Clover Hill, Arras

Just in time for XMAS, a quick run through of sparkling wines that should be widely available. I restricted the tasting to a manageable two dozen and tasted them blind from Champagne flutes in brackets of three. My chum, Fluffy Hair Adair, was present as guest/stunt taster to provide a second pair of nostrils. Now hear this: the true test of a good fizzy wine is whether or not you want to have a second glass, and to this effect this tasting is flawed (as are all ‘show’ style events). However, one has to balance volume with thoroughness, so it’s a compromise. The scores might be higher or lower if I were to taste fewer wines less hurriedly, but one thing’s for sure – the real quality sparkled. Rough cut notes provided.
