Seppelt Show Reserve Sparkling Shiraz 1994 (Extended lees release)

Seppelt sold out of the 1994 vintage some time ago but they kept a small batch on lees and will release it before long – I’m not exactly sure when. There is only 40 dozen of this available. It was kept on lees for a remarkable 12 years. I have no idea of price, and whether or not it will be sold via retail or via the restaurant trade … with such a small quantity available, I suspect the latter.

There is a history of these long lees-time Seppelt sparkling reds – there has been the odd batch in the past held on lees for 20 years (and indeed some of the 1964 was left on lees until 1987, and there is still some of the 1982 Show Reserve Sparkling Shiraz on lees in the Seppelt cellar. It’s an amazing place, is Seppelt).
