Scorpo Pinot Noir 2006
Scorpo always puts me in mind of Al Pacino..but I’m obviously confusing it with Serpico.
This is a lovely wine of refinement and grace offering plump cherries, red fruits, spice, a foresty fragrance with some wood and vanilla top notes. It’s medium bodied and fresh - lithe but well knit with gentle ultra-fine tannins and a pleasing minerality running through subtle, slightly sour edged and sappy, red fruits. The finish is dry and lengthy with the overall impression of red Burgundy being a role model.

GW. Lined this up against the Kooyong and Port Phillip PN to experience the different styles all made by the one talented man. I think Kooyong was far and away the winner - I’m guessing this is more to do with site rather than the making of the wine??
Love the Scorpo Chardonnay though - its fantastic.
I should have done the same..I have all those wines..but I do have the 07 Port Phillip, 07 Scorpo Norrien and 07 Kooyong Massale on the bench to open at once - same premise.
GW
Be intested to see what you think. I really don’t like the Port Phillip wines at all, which is interesting considering my collection is chock full of Kooyong. Actually had a flick at lunch at the 09 JH wine companion and Scorpo was borderline his winery of the year.
Lot’s of people misname this brand “Scorpio” which makes me think of Hank Scorpio from The Simpsons.

If you mean the Kooyong Estate Pinot then I agree, it’s a great pinot for the money

Yep - was talking about the Kooyong Estate. Would be unfare to compare the Single Vineyards (Ferrous, Meres and Haven)as they are a different price range and in the case of Haven a different stratosphere.
Im planning on opening one of these on Christmas day and am looking for a good affordable red Burgundy as well. Does anyone have any advice on something that’ll fit the bill that I can get in melbourne? Cheers - Dave
I like the 05 Faiveley Clos du Myglands 1er - still available at around $55 per bottle. Give it a decant.
GW
Thanks Gary!
I love that name. Obviously not as funny in French.
a bottle of myglands and a bottle of spleen for chrissie … noice.
