Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz 1991

The Peter Lehmann team has always preferred the 1991 vintage over 1990 for Barossa reds - a fact I didn’t know until after the tasting of these old Stonewells. In terms of Stonewell Shiraz, I agree with them.

Would have been a very interesting tasting to see the shift in style. I have found the 1990 and 1991 nice wines but out of balance because of the heavy oak use. Consequently I haven’t bought the Stonewell since, although I gather they reduced this in later vintages (from 1996 onward).

The oak is probably less noticeable in a vertical line-up like this than if you have the wine by itself or with different wines against it.
