Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2004

As far as I can tell, Penfolds hasn’t jacked the price up on the 2004 release of Grange. Maybe some of the (high) prices being quoted are the doing of retailers. In any case, last year I was quoted $549 as the price of Grange and yesterday I was quoted the same price (from Foster’s), so not everything is Foster’s’ fault.

I’m not sure that ripe, South Australian shiraz gets any better than this – in terms of depth and complexity. It’s a credit to winemaker Peter Gago and his team.

You need a subscription to The Wine Front to read this part of the post.

Footnote: I might have been wrong above. I am seeing $600 prices quoted on 2004 Grange, and I suspect that there has been a rise in the wholesale price.
