Orlando St Hugo Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

This has surprised me a little. A few years ago I thought it looked pretty ready to go and now it looks like it has gone backwards!

Very good colour – strong and youthful. Aromas of blackcurrant/plum, tobacco, aniseed, cedar/vanilla oak and a light smoky character. On the palate a plush, ripe and round Cabernet with blackcurrant, berry and black olive flavours and a well measured spank of timber. Plenty of ripe grainy tannin – really quite grippy now the fruit is settling down. Oliveaceous tannic finish of fair length. An excellent St Hugo.
