Occhipinti SP68 Nero d’Avola Frappato Sicilia IGT 2015

GW passed on reviewing in August last year, but I thought due to the popularity of the wine, and its near omnipresence in ‘hip’ wine bars and the like, it was best to take a look. It might just have slipped into more comfortable shoes. And it felt righteous as something to drink in FNQ straight out of the fridge, sloshed into a tumbler, Bangalow pork chops just ripped off the BBQ. There’s no denying there’s some ‘barnyard-y funk’ to the wine, but in the mix of personalities of fruit, savouriness, spice and something more earthy-mineral, it’s woven well into the gist of the wine. At best, it’s calmed down some, since release.
