Nick Spencer Gundagai Dry Red Blend 2017

The back label is kind of the front label these days, but I’ve shown the front label here. It’s 58% Shiraz, 31% Touriga, 6.5% Tempranillo, and 4.5% Cabernet Sauvignon. An ‘exquisite blend’ in the words of the winemaker.

It’s floral and nutty, with a dusting of pepper over blue and purple fruit, and for me, some ouzo/aniseed and a little Play-Doh kind of deal. Medium-bodied, enough fruit, but more to nutty/ferrous in flavour rather than simply fruity. Tannin has a fine chalk dust texture, along with clean and balanced acidity. Some cherry/boysenberry pie with spicy crust in the aftertaste, along with that gentle drag of tannin on good solid finish. A wine of polish and finesse, and an added dimension of interest in its blend of grape varieties. Nice one, Nick.
