Mandala Shiraz 2015

Yarra Valley shiraz. Eighteen months in French oak. Benefits from a brief stint in the decanter.

The presence of oak is clear in both flavour and texture terms but the result, to say the least, is smooth. This tastes of ground coffee, chocolate and sweet black cherries, though importantly these seductive qualities are given a more sophisticated edge via earth, game and twig-like notes. Indeed it finishes quite dry. It’s fruit- and oak-driven, in other words, but with savoury inputs. It’s above average quality, and a good drink.
