La Violetta Das Sakrileg Riesling 2015

Barrel-fermented, sent to bottle unfined and unfiltered. Aside that, good vines, good winemaker. Meanwhile, simply, it is insanely delicious. This is one of Australia’s most interesting/delicious rieslings, year-on-year, in its relatively short life, I feel.

That texture. Wow. Succulent, mouthwatering, lightly glossy, slippery and so very long. It’s a wine that shows wild, attractive scents of ginger, lemongrass, citrus blossom, green apple, faint nuttiness. The palate is fresh, fine, spreads through the palate but holds vitality and shows some talc-like mineral edges. Such energy and compelling drinking. It feels so different to so many Australian rieslings, carving out its own path, ignoring the lust for blistering acidity and searching for more multi-faceted personality. Super stuff.
