La Violetta Bilingüe 2015

A blend of grenache-mataro-syrah. Don’t know anything about this new release and texted winemaker Andrew Hoadley at 845pm on a long weekend Friday to get the RRP; I am a great bloke. I imagine a wizard sprinkles eye of newt on the grapes then unicorns do pigeage and the wine is meant for cellaring and drinking.

Robust scents of booming berries, tar, warm tarmac, liquorice. Hits you up, but good. Palate does the opposite. Though full in flavour, dark fruited, it sits in firm sheets in the palate, just up from medium weight, shows some glossy glide then shifts to a pull of pleasingly bitter flavours, herbs, spice, and chewy, talc-textured tannins. It’s a beautiful, fine wine in the mouth, but stacked with flavour and etched with fine detail. Indeed, this is very good wine. Excellent drinking.
