Koltz DogDay Shiraz 2017

Feels like a more racy vintage for The Vale in 2017, well preliminary tastings point to this, anyway. I’ve said it before, but Pere Ubu’s ‘Breath’ my wine and music match here. It’s on as I type. “Now it’s parking lots.”

Fresh, spicy, boysenberry and new leather, dried herb perfume. Medium-bodied, crunch of fresh berry acidity, a grainy grip to the tannin, and while it’s fruity in a way, the overall taste is quite ‘meat rolled in dry herb with black olive’. Quite ‘Italianate’ really, and the finish has an attractive slick of tannin. It’s meant to be drunk young, I suspect, though a few years should see it improve.
