Kay Brothers Block 6 Shiraz 2006
It’s a very specific style is the old Block 6. I’d have to think you’d pick it in a blind tasting…but then again I have (in)famously picked a Chateauneuf as Cabernet and Bass Philip Reserve Pinot as Pomeral…amongst other gems..but to my own credit I have been fabulously drunk on each occasion..

As I just put my order in with Kay’s yesterday, including for this… excellent to hear the review.
I’m glad I paid a bit extra and managed to get a 6-pack of this with 3 Hillside and 3 BP from the same vintage. Odd that Kays would allow that given the restrictions to mailing list customers. I don’t know if the merchant is still able to do the deal though.
You tried this then Brian? Must have to go for 6.

No, not yet. This is one of the very few wines I buy just about every year even if I haven’t tried it, still have back to 1996, missing 1997 and only 2000 and 2003 have turned out to be lesser but not bad wines.
I have tried a Hillside 2006 and have already indicated which camp I’m in on that one, usually buy that each year too, back to 1998, missing 1999.
Is the Block 6 shiraz made only with grapes from the 1892 vines, or is there a bit of the younger vines grapes from block 6 as well?
As far as I know it’s all old vine and the block is not even being re-planted.
GW
The Hillside is the younger vines from Block 6 cuttings.
Thanks for that, Gary and Brian.
