Katnook Estate Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Drinking an Australian Cabernet alongside Bordeaux always exaggerates (although highlights might be a better word) just how sweetly fruited and minty much of our wine is. I reckon we develop a high tolerance, a sort of local immunity, to mint and eucalypt flavours as a result. You can watch some Katnook Telly here.. Listen to how Wayne says “Katnook Estate”.

Layers of oak derived complexity here with flavours of toast and coffee, clove and spices with some nougat and coconut sweetness. It’s minty and aniseed flecked too but has excellent rich blackberry fruit that’s more than up to the task. Full bodied and remarkably smooth and supple, it’s been massaged and groomed to be almost immaculate in its delivery of sweet fruited flavour. Long and balanced. All of that sort of thing. Very good wine. It’s ready now too, if you give it a good decant.
