Juniper Crossing Small Batch Tempranillo 2017

From the ‘Crossing’ not the ‘Estate’ range and given the denomination of ‘Small Batch’. A bunch of different clones contribute to the whole; it’s been a decade-long project for Juniper. Hangs out in older barrels.

Juicy red of brightness and general gluggability, showing strong perfume of sarsaparilla, cherry cola, sweet spice. The palate has some grunt and chew but the wine sits at medium bodied and relatively soft. There’s some plummy fruit sweetness with the cola-root beer characters, and a good dusting of peppery spice to close, with tannin pucker. Has a freshness too. Good drinking, is the message.

Tasted : DEC18
Price : $28
