Jérôme Prévost La Closerie Les Béguines Champagne 2012

LC12, it has on the label in small print, which means it’s from 2012, though not technically labelled as vintage Champagne. From a two hectare vineyard planted solely to Pinot Meunier. No dosage. He tries to get the fruit as ripe as he can. It’s a very hard wine to find, but well worth reviewing.

Flowers, honey, light malt, yeast, bread, lemon, apple. A calm explosion of flavour, pin point stippling of bubble, complex gently nutty flavours, perfect acidity, vinous and long. Superb. All the normal gross Champagne things are not present in this wine. Chalky and minerally too. Pure. What fun to drink, from a big glass.

Tasted : Jun15
