Just as an addendum to this - I had this on 93 points on day one, and then (largely) for reasons of style bumped it up to 94 on day two.

And I was 93 verging on 94, so it’s thereabouts.
Actually, I might change it … it’s gold medal standard.

I just love a review (or two) that makes me laugh out loud
I thought the wine was great too.

Mish mash, pish pash. This is going to be interesting, the double-take thing. I’m looking forward to some real differences of opinions, particularly on Australian wines sans pinot. Go for it guys and really put your individual opinions out there. Both of your opinions seem to mostly be near to Halliday’s (or Ben’s?) although I have seen some variations. Stylistic and personal palate preferences are bound to influence anyone’s appreciation of a wine. A good wine will always garner good reviews and for the punter like me who hasn’t ready access to all the wines reviewers taste, my buying choices are defintiely influenced their opinions.
Not sure about The Story Westgate 2006 as I’ve not yet tasted it. But Bert’s sending me a taster I’ve ordered in a mixed case as a supplement to the couple of bottles I already have that I’d like to age a bit. Halliday nailed the Charles Sturt Uni chard 07, it’s a cracker at <$13. 94/100? Yep! Especially in the style that critics have demanded for Australian chards. Though I still don’t mind the occasional big, oaky blowsy Aus chard.
Apologies for digressing but anyway I will continue to so do. Judy’s going to dispatch to me a case of Mike Press cab 06 this week. She sent me a copy of the Gourmet Traveller list of **** wines that included the aforementioned. There are some wines in the list that I was surprised, by reputation and price, were rated **** instead of *****.
I’d be interested in your individual ratings of the wines in the GTW **** list.
Cheers guys, keep ‘em coming.
