Crawford River Rose 2012

Another whoops, found this one down the back of the couch, but felt some historical length in the Crawford River slot was needed on WineFront. Made from cabernet sauvignon, left on skins for a few hours. Fruit grown for rose, not a by-product of winemaking at Crawford River. The use-by-date mentality of many Australian drinkers will likely have them reaching for the 2013 that is current release as at early July14, but this wine is in a good slot. Many quality rose, and aromatic whites, could do with an extra six to twelve months beyond their seemingly early releases.

Acidity has softened, some of the tighter composition of the wine makes the texture a little glossier than expected, a touch of savouriness to counter chalk-like minerality and grapefruity acidity. Big hit of rose water, rose petal and musk in the bouquet; fragrant with a hint of dried herbs. This is really delicious and shows some good detail, all-up; hope you saved some.

Tasted : JUL14
