Clarence House Estate Reserve Pinot Noir 2015

Clarence Beeks was the plaid sports coat wearing detective in Trading Places, which is where my mind runs to when I see this label. My brother (older) used to tease me that I was like Louis Winthorpe III from that movie, as played by Dan Ackroyd. Quite often, aside from that, I had people tell me I reminded them of Dan Ackroyd, or Tim Robbins. I preferred the latter. Anyway, enough about me, and Trading Places. This comes from the gentle hands of Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley, from a vineyard planted in the late 90s, quite some time after Trading Places was first screened.

Rich style that’s often typical of Southern Tassie, but there’s a wonderful sweep of dense velour tannin here that carries the wine beautifully. I’m thinking plum and cherry, dried roses, autumn leaves, exotic spices, almost into chocolate, with just a nip of dried mint and cedar above. Full flavour, but medium bodied, toasty oak, a bit of the old ‘mineral’, plush fruit, cool integrated acidity, and a long finish that drags gently with tannin. Very good. Age-worthy too, it feels.
