Tardieu-Laurent Rasteau Vielles Vignes 2007
I’ll tell you what…I’ll be happy when January is over. All this Summertime Big Red Wine Book tasting malarky is starting to get me down…and I suspect Mattinson is working at least twice as hard as I am. Anyway, I opened this last night with a view to writing it up today. Enquiries: Fourth Wave Partners

Tardieu-Laurent Chateauneuf du Pape 2007
Not the Vieilles Vignes, nor the Cuvee Speciale - just the standard offering from Tardieu-Laurant who make a mind bogglingly large amount of wines (NB: the bottle image is for the Cuvee Speciale but they all look pretty much the same, just ignore the writing). Enquiries: Fourth Wave Partners

Tardieu Laurent Condrieu 2008
By Campbell Mattinson
Now I rarely get too excited over viognier. But this Tardieu Laurent version is beautiful. It’s imported by Fourth Wave Wine.

Tardieu-Laurent Gigondas Vieilles Vignes 2007
Ah Gigondas, and as one of my friends would always exclaim lustily when greeted with a bottle - “The Big Man!” It’s 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre and Cinsault where VV in this case means 60 years for the Grenache and 35 years for the Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. I tasted this over three days: first from a small glass with fish smells wafting around (enthusiastic), then later that evening (less enthusiastic), then again the next night (more enthusiastic) and then finally on the third night back to full enthusiasm, and a bit more -the ride on the fourth wave resulting in a big Hi Di Hi! Importer: Fourth Wave Wine Partners (only three more ’till Love, no doubt).

Saint Cosme Cotes-du-Rhone 2007
This is a 14 percent alcohol, 100 percent syrah from the southern Rhone. It’s exclusive to Vintage Cellars. I went looking for a bottle image and noticed - or so a retail site noted - that Parker had given this 90 points.

Vincent Paris Granit 30 Cornas 2007
I’m not much of a Northern Rhone kind of guy (nor much of a cool climate syrah/shiraz type either as it happens), much preferring the brighter Southern skies. I did purchase a few bottles of the 2005 Granit 30 and a magnum of the Granit 60 from this producer, and have been known to dabble in the dirt every now and then. Pictured is the 2005 vintage, taken at our old house, under the rocks and stones/there is water underground. Letting the days go by… Importer: Heart & Soil.

Michel & Stephane Ogier Cote Rotie 2006
This Cote Rotie doesn’t (I’m told) include viognier - most Cote Rotie producers do, but a few don’t. You wouldn’t guess it here - it’s hugely aromatic.

Yann Chave Crozes Hermitage 2006
Each time I’ve had this Yann Chave Crozes 2006 I’ve really enjoyed it, but tonight’s bottle was the best of the lot. I suspect that a little extra bottle age is serving it well.
