Castagna Un Segreto Sangiovese Syrah 2012

70/30 blend of Beechworth sangiovese and syrah.

Quite a different expression here, in the context of the Castagna lineage. Greater emphasis on savouriness. It’s essentially a wine of spice, luscious cherries, tobacco-like herbs and long fingers of tannin. Smoke, meat and mulberried characters play a clear role too, as we’ve come to expect from the Castagna vineyards. Smokin’ tobacco. Elegant and dry, with strings of acid and tannin pulling and humming, tightening and setting flavours off to effect.
