Blend of skin contact-fermented/matured savagnin and chardonnay, with skin contact/matured riesling blended in, then some non-skin contact roussane and viognier was splashed in. Sum of parts. Detail. While the Castagna’s tout natural wine as their metier, it’s a science based approach that underpins it, which is potent in wines such as this.
A great fog of perfume offering savoury-nutty character, whiffs of ripe/dried/fresh apple and citrus, a sniff of potpourri. Come hither stuff. Layers of flavour and texture to taste. More of the dried and fresh, tart fruits, nibbles of savouriness in wheat and nuts, fine chalky tannins drawing the wine long and to a fine, chewy point. It’s an excellent wine with amazing texture.
