Botham 80 Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Sir Ian Botham has released a new range of wines. This is the Coonawarra cabernet version. “80 Series” refers to the year Sir Ian became the first person to score 100 and take 10 wickets in the same match.

The 81 Series Shiraz is ok but ho-hum. This 80 Series Cabernet though is another story altogether. It’s good. It’s excellent value. It tastes of blackcurrant, bay, choc and mint and it has an all-round varietal sturdiness. It could even cellar well over the medium term. There’s a trace of bitterness to the aftertaste, which won’t suit everyone, but I’d reckon this punches significantly above its weight.
