Blood Brothers Republic Grenache 2015

Blood Brothers Republic sounds like the new film from Kathryn Ann Bigelow, another gritty war tale, this time covering the Democratic Front for Eritrean Unity, shot cinéma vérité, pulsing with Alexandre Desplat’s moving symphonics. Or is it a casual men’s wear range specialising in various cuts of chinos and epaulette shirts? Dunno, but it likely comes from deep in the formidable Dorrien winery in Barossa Valley, and definitely comes from McLaren Vale vines. A Cellarmasters own brand wine here, and geez, the quality is increasing onwards from the mega group.

It’s a nice drink, sweet in perfume, gently sweet in fruit flavours, you’d say perfumed and pretty, but there’s the odd rough edge, a breathy warmth and twang of acid that doesn’t quite find the smooth side of the spatula. That being said, first approach is attractive, definitively ‘grenache’, though you’re in university course 101 here. Red cherry, musk sticks, rose hip tea to sniff on, the palate a light raspberry jam and black currant jelly kind of vibe, though there’s a dash of spice too. It’s an easy drink, best shared around when you’re not having to think too much about the wine, which is a great time to be drinking anyway.
