Balgownie Estate Rock Block Shiraz 2015

Grown on a block of vines “named after the tonnes of reef rock that were removed so that plantings could proceed”.

It stands tall, it stands wide, it stands firm. Flavours of licorice, blackberry and saltbush come studded with peppercorn and toast, the tannin sinewy but the flavour rich and powerful. When I say licorice I mean dry licorice, almost into cocoa-like territory. It’s a brute but a stylish and well mannered one.
