Bonavita Faro Superiore Rosso 2014

VAT47_BS

Tyrrell’s Vat 47 Chardonnay 2017

The synchronicity of the 47th vintage of Vat 47 here. Drongo Mike Bennie sat next to me at the vertical tasting of V47 spanning 2004-2017, but he lost his notes in a technology accident. These things happen to Mike and Campbell, but rarely to me. Well, MB is much better at writing profound notes on the fly – a marvel to watch – so you’ll just have to make do with me, for now.

rudderlessshiz-96x300

Rudderless Vineyard Shiraz 2016

Doug Govan (grower/owner) and Charlie Seppelt (winemaker) like nothing more than a post-vintage disco where they go bare-chested under white suit jackets and tight white pants. “Keep it comin’ love”. This straight Shiraz is perhaps my least favourite on a ‘personal taste’ level, but gee, there’s no doubting the quality.

11shirmalbec-800-96x300

Rudderless Vineyard Shiraz Malbec 2016

The cellars of the Victory Hotel are full of Wendouree, and perhaps a there’s a little osmotic magic happening to the vineyard adjacent? Who knows. I don’t know much, but I know what I like.  It’s a 60/40 blend in favour of Shiraz. Old oak only.

Bel Colle Barbaresco Pajorè 2015

As a first taste of 2015 cru Barbaresco, this is pretty encouraging. There’s three producers making wines from this Treiso MGA – Rizzi, Sottimano, and Bel Colle. Importer: Ethereal & Piedmont Fine Wines

Monchiero_Rocche_di_Castiglione_Riserva_Barolo_1024x1024@2x

Monchiero Barolo Rocche di Castiglione Riserva 2012

From the best parcel of the Rocche vineyard, and left in bottle for the additional two years to make it a ‘riserva’. My feeling is, many riservas lose something when the extra age is taken in barrel, freshness mainly, though this is not the case here. I’m pretty fond of the 2012 vintage, as I keep saying, and while I think they will age pretty well, they’re certainly drinking nicely as younger wines. Importer: Ethereal & Piedmont Fine Wines
