Laughing Jack Moppa Hill Block 6 Shiraz 2016

I’m not too bad at Barossa Shiraz, though I suspect CM and MB are more tuned in than I. Well, I’m probably better than both of them, to be honest, just a little out of practise.

Laughing Jack Jack’s Shiraz 2016

I’m told by many in the wine trade that Barossa Shiraz is still King. In other news, I also saw a LOT of people drinking sparkling Shiraz when I was over in Adelaide last weekend. It’s not Sydney, that’s for sure.

Musso_Dolcetto-dAlba

Musso Pinot Nero 2016

Grown on the higher parts of the Rio Sordo (Barbaresco) cru. Tasted a few odds and ends (Pinot Nero, Sauvignon, Riesling, Chardonnay etc.) while in Piedmont, and to an extent, the region tends to dominate grape variety, which is no bad thing to my way of thinking. Bottle image is for Dolcetto, but same same, visually. Importer: Ethereal & Piedmont Fine Wines

Juno-NebbRosato-NV-reflection

Longview Nebbiolo Rosato 2018

Nebbiolo is one of the best grapes for making rosato, yet there’s practically none of it made in Piedmont. This comes from a vineyard specifically planted for making rosato.

Longview Iron Knob Riesling 2018

Not solely because it has the word ‘knob’ in its name, this was maybe my favourite wine from a selected range tried at the cellar door last Sunday. This is a winery on the rise I feel, in terms of thoughfulness, quality and style.

Thomas-Wines-DJV_Shiraz-120x300

Thomas Wines DJV Shiraz 2017

It’s fair to say that 2017 was a wonderful vintage in the Hunter Valley for reds. I think this is the wine that’s cut with a bit of Trebbiano or Semillon to give it a more natural line of acidity.
