Ferngrove Cabernet Merlot 2016

This range used to be called Symbols, may well still be, though in any case it comes with a white label with a swirly symbol-like thing on the front. The image here is from the Ferngrove website but the label has been tweaked slightly since.

st hallett old block shiraz

St Hallett Old Block Shiraz 2014

For a vineyard to qualify as a contributor to St Hallett’s Old Block Shiraz it must be planted on its own rootstock and be older than 40 years old. For this 2014 release the average vine age was 87 years, with vines (across nine vineyards) raging from 1963 plantings to some planted in 1870. 38% of the grapes for this release were from the Eden Valley, “the highest we’ve ever had”, according to winemaker Toby Barlow. The wine goes into 100% French oak (for 36 months) from a wide range of coopers.
