Andevine Reserve Shiraz 2017

From the Hillside vineyard, planted by Bazza Drayton in 1965. Twelve months in puncheons, 15% of them new.

It’s just pup at present, or so it feels. Dark cherry, aniseed, a bit of Hunter earth in play, and some spicy biscuit oak and rosy perfume. Medium-bodied, raspberry ripple juiciness, fine grained chalky tannin, toasty and savoury elements, bright and slightly tangy acidity, firm finish of fine length that puts me in mind of Central Otago Pinot, for whatever reason. Leave it alone for a few years to get the best out of it.

Tasted : Dec18
Alcohol : 13.5%
Price : $60
